Little Siagon Neighborhood
This area is Orlando's version of 'Chinatown.' There are various Asians who reside here, including Vietnamese, Filipino, Korean, Chinese and others.
Recently, the eclectic area was threatened when a national chain drugstore tried to demolish a block of historic buildings and put up a superstore. The people banded together to curtail the event. The case is still in courts, so get here soon while the area still has its own identity.

The only thing close to a 'mega-store' this place has is Dong-A Supermarket. The store has every Asian grocery item imaginable. It smells of dead fish (like many of these stores smell to non-Asians), but looks clean and appetizing. People from all over Orlando shop here to purchase genuine Asian foods.

One of the best bargains in Orlando and favorite Vietnamese restaurants is Little Siagon. It is at 1106 East Colonial Drive (near Mills Avenue). Although it faces Colonial, there are very few parking spaces on that street; the best parking is in the back of the restaurant. They have everything from very filling soups to rice dishes with scrambled egg and meat for only six or seven dollars. There are several sauces on the table ranging from sweet to hot. The best appetizer, by far, is the dish of summer rolls. You get two rolls with peanut sauce for under three dollars and they are so addictive! They're nothing like egg rolls or even spring rolls. Instead of a fried wrapper, the shrimp, pork, rice and veggies are encased in a chilled transparent rice-flour wrap. The wait staff brings them out to you in two or three minutes, just a bit quicker than the entrees are served.

There used to be a Chinatown within the Splendid China Park Complex, right by Disney, but it closed in 2003:

Here is some info on what it used to be like:
Chinatown by day or night offers exciting excursions into China's cultural diversity.

The new Central Florida Chinatown exists nowhere else on earth, but is rather a microcosm of the oriental marketplaces found in the Chinatowns' of New York, Toronto, San Francisco and Hong Kong. Guests are invited to come in, stroll the byways and waterways, and experience an authentic Oriental atmosphere.

Authentic Oriental Delicacies - Retail food shopping is an ethnic delight for Orientals and an eye popper for Westerners. The variety of frozen, salted, dried and canned fish runs from Octopus flakes to Eel fingerlings. Also available and long known in the East for nutritional and therapeutic qualities: several types of dried seaweed, dried and stewed bamboo shoots; flavored lichees and logans, pickled sea cucumbers, and "hundred year old eggs" (so called because they are aged in a chemical and lime bath that turns them black.

Merchandise - Chinatown offers a truly unique array of gift and collectible items, artifacts, artworks and antiques found nowhere else in the South. Authentic in-shop Chinese merchandise is supplemented by several on-street vendors, selling their wares in the traditional time-honored street carts familiar to the streets of Shanghai and Beijing.

Antiques/Artifacts - Some of the art and art works are created on-site by several Chinatown artists and artisans. You can watch the intricate work of calligrapher Wei Shao, the deft finger strokes of world-renowned Zeng Jinglan, the sculpting of Hang Liu, and the traditional Chinese painting of Yang Neng Chen.

Dining & Entertainment - Dining and entertainment are a special part of the Chinese culture. These traditions are apparent throughout ChinaTown with its several fine restaurants, pavilions and theaters.

That sure sounds like fun- wish it was still open.

Just for fun, here are the locations of two other China Towns in Florida

Miami - NE 167th Street and 163rd Street, between NE 6th Avenue and NE 19th Avenue
Tampa - Waters and Armenia Avenues

Have a great day!!!!!!!!!

More like Vietnam Town than China Town, but it has a wonderful, distinct feel to it. There are many, many Asian restaurants surrounding the intersection of Mills and Colonial - too many to count. Definate highlights are Little Saigon - their food is cheap, good, and will give you a good sampling of Vietnamese cuisine. The summer rolls are, indeed, addictive. They recently renovated and added a few more items to their menu. The cheap items are still the best :) Other good restaurants include: Vinh's, Viet Garden, Anh Hong, Thai House.

Dong A Co. is a good store to visit to pick up unique food items as well as kitchen utensils such as bamboo steamers and woks.

There are also video stores that specialize in Asian films, but I haven't rented any of them :)

Yes, there is a Chinatown in Orlando. The 42,000 SF Oriental Supermarket is the largest one in Florida! It is a big shopping center with lots of Asian tenants, including Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese restaurants, bobba tea, Chinese bank, massage place, travel agency, hair salon, merchandise etc. The address is 5132 W. Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL32808.

On East Colonial Dr. just before it turns into West Colonial Dr. there is an asian community there with all kinds of asian shops and stuff. But I don't know if it is Chinese.
