Check in the Chinchilla section at the pet store....they have cooling stones that they can sit on. I'm sure your hamster will enjoy it.

The thing that makes humans feel cool when the fan is running is actually the evaporation of sweat on our skin. Hamsters do not sweat, so a fan does not make them feel cooler. Put a thermometer into a room check the temp and then turn a fan on. No difference. However if you blow the fan over a block of ice, it'll cool the air nicely. That's what people used to do before air conditioning. I use a piece of rock, marble (broken piece of counter top works well for this. Ask at a home improvement store, they put busted pieces in their dumpster) and I put it in the freezer or fridge over night. If you have more than one piece you can have one ready in there at all times. When the rock is cold wrap a dish towel around it and put it in your hamsters cage. You can also use bags of gravel, but there you have the plastic that he can chew on. He'll lay on it if he gets hot. Hamsters shouldn't get too hot too easily, but I don't know how hot it gets where you are. Using rock instead of water bottles is a lot less messy, because water bottles "sweat" and you will know for sure that your hamster is not going to end up chewing on the rock. He could end up eating plastic if he chewed on the bottle caps.

If you don't have central heat and air and or an air conditioner the best way to keep your hamster cooled off while your away is to make sure it has a small, tiny bowl of ice cold water in it's cage floor for the hamster even though I'm sure it has a water bottle in it's cage this is a good idea because the hamster can let the cold water cool it down when it takes a drink from the tiny bowl. Also to make sure that you keep your hamsters cage away from direct sunlight coming into your home. This should work.

Air conditioning, fans or anykind of drafts are not good for your hammie. But if you're in disbelief then keep it up? When your hammie is dead kick yourself in the **** for a job well done!
I freeze 20 oz. water bottles and place them inside my (2) hamsters' cages. I checked with my vet he said the hammie is in not immediate danger. As the temperature rises, they will instinctively move to the coolest part of the cage. Whether its up on the top of their house, first or second level. Make sure you check up on the hammies and the water bottle so it doesn't leak. Also, don't forget to remove the bottle as the temperature decreases.
These rodents are used to the heat but too much can be fatal. A hamster can not be in temperatures exceeding 85 F. If you have a minute, I'd like to know if it works out for your hammies? Take care!

I put a bottle of water in the freezer, and then I put a cap on it and put it in the cage for my rats. If they are too hot, they lay on the bottle. Also, a wire cage is much cooler than an aquarium or plastic cage, because the air can get in. You can also draw the curtains during the hottest part of the day to keep your house cool. Make sure your hamster has plenty of water!

I've noticed in the pet stores that don't seem to have air conditioning, that they freeze a 20 oz water bottle and leave it in the cage with the hamsters, bunnies, guinea pigs, etc. It gives them a form of air conditioning, apparently.

Buy a miniture refrigerator, remove the door, tip it on it's back, half-fill it with saw-dust and put a chicken wire lid over the top.
Hey-presto: a temperature controlled hamster cage.

AH, i ran into this with my rabbits, and i found that if i filled an empty 20 oz (or smaller) bottle with water and then put it in the freezer until it was solid, they would lay against it when it became too hot.. :) you could try that

Fill a plactic pop bottle with water and freeze it. Then put the water in the cage. He'll lay against it when he's hot.
