I know that the larger the object is, the more gravity it has, and that the closer objects are the more gravitaional force they have on eachother, but do scientists have any idea what the cause of gravity is? I'm pretty sure there is no known answer yet, but are there any theories?

No more moon answers, i know that thats wrong.
Erika S just to let you know the rotating earth doesn't cause gravity. The moon rotates around the earth due to the earths grovity, the earth rotates around the sun because or gravity, and the sun rotates around the center of the milky way galaxy because of gravity, but gravity isn't created by the spinning earth. Also they don't teach all this in 8th grade so i havent been given the opportunity to pass notes during this lesson yet.

Space is elastic, like a trampoline. If you place on object in space, it warps the space around it, like a depression in the fabric of space. The bigger the object, the bigger the depression, or "gravity well". If you have another object that is close enough to a gravity well in space, it will "roll in", or "be attracted".

I agree with the warping space/time and the trampoline answer. With the depression, another mass now has a force toward the center of the depression.
Feynmann said before Newton there were angles pushing the moon around the heavens. After Newton, there were still angles, but they pushed toward the Earth.

The rotation of the Earth actually creates a force pushing us off the Earth. Ride on a merry-go-round, or something to feel this.

Hi. Actually it's the MASS of an object and how close you can get to the center of that mass that increases the force we feel as gravity. One theory calls for the exchange of "gravitons" between bodies as a cause of the force, but Einstein felt it was the curving of space. Think of an onion. A really BIG onion where each layer is farther or closer to the center. Object might tend to be pushed towards curves with smaller radii and therefore tend to move towards the center of the curves - the massive object. Kind of hard to visualize but that's the fun, don't you think?

All mass and energy causes gravity. In General Relativity, gravity is described as a curvature of space-time. This curvature is caused by the density of mass-energy and of various stresses. In turn, the motion of other things is determined by the local geometry Thus, planets revolve (not rotate) around the sun and the moon revolves around the earth.

The spinning of the earth on its axle and the rotation around the sun causes that. If you had listened in science instead of passing noted to your Friends you would know that!!

all that is know for sure in the science community right now about gravity is that the more mass something has, the more gravity it has.

The current prevailing theory behind this is the graviton, but short of quantum physics it isn't well explained, and even using quantum physics its not understood.

There is no such thing as gravity...

the earth just sucks :)

(This is an old joke from the 1960s and 70s... no insult intended lol)

There is no known answer or theory to explain gravity. It is simply a phenomena we live by.
The best we can do is have a definition of it. Same with magnetism, etc.

Whole Universe is under Magnetic field.
Gravity is demonstration of it.
Human body is also built on similar way. Body die/perish but magnetic Halo remains and on the day of Judgement this magnetic tape will be revinded to speak of our doings.
