I've had both and it depends on the experience of the gynecologist. Personally, I found women to be rougher than men. Go with what you are comfortable with and always have a chaperon. It protects both you and the doctor. Have a great day.

I thought I was the only one who found the women to be more "rough", than the men. I've had 4, and the two that were older were rough and even kind of rude as some of these other women mentioned. I find that odd. I have had some very compassionate, understanding, caring male doctors, and have preferred them to the female doctors. Check around and ask questions from friends. Nurses can be a very good source for recommendations. If you find a doctor doesn't listen, then change doctors. Don't be embarrassed. This is their job, and there should be a nurse in there with you during the exam. If you would prefer a woman, then by all means get a woman, but still ask around first. By the way, the cure for embarrassment is having a baby. Wouldn't you agree women???

I have had a male and female gynocoligist. I was not embarrassed by the male because I know that he has seen it all before and he is not interested in anything but doing his job. All he wants to do is help you and make sure you are okay. If you are not okay he wants to help you. Don't be scared to go to a male gynocologist.
If it was me I would go to either one. Some people say that females are way more rude and rough but I think they all male and female both try to be as gentle and as welcoming and comforting as possible. The males usually try to be a littlle more welcoming though. And I guess they are a little more gentle then the women. They seem to care a little more!
hope i helped you darling

Personally, I have had two gyno's and they were both women. I see a lot of people say that female gyno's are more rude and rough... I would be more prone to say that it depends on the doctor - not their gender. There are "bad" doctors just like there are "bad" everything-else's. To say all women gyno's are rude and rough is just not true. The two I've had have been great -- not rough at all, and very friendly and willing to spend time with me and whatever questions I had. Personally I prefer my gyno's to be women. I'm sure there are great male gyno's out there for sure, but women gyno's do have one thing males don't... first hand experience. When I talk about my cramps or period, my female gyno completely understands because she experiences it monthly as well. So of course there is no right or wrong, just whichever you prefer!

I would! I've never had a male doctor and I hope I never do. But, many people think I'm weird and say that their doctor understands them better than women doctors. It is best to go with someone, male or female, that you can trust and tell everything to. It's your own preference, but remember to ask questions and even ask for referalls from their patients if you want to. They will be happy to answer any questions and should be happy to have some of their current patients contact you so you can get some specific advice on that doctor. Good luck!

No. I have not been embarrased by male doctors, however I was raised by a European father who believed in open doors - even in the bathroom, so I am not as uptight about nudity as some.
I would much rather have a woman though. There are some things men just don't understand, because they don't go through it once a month, that a woman gyno understands, cause she does.

Male gyno? Not for me, I would prefer a female. I was lucky enough to get one when i went for my very first annual. I dunno how embarrassed i would really be having a male explore down there, but i definitely think that i would feel a little uncomfortable asking particular questions. I work at a hospital and i talk with many Dr's, and they for the most part are all very nice. If you do have a male gyno I'm sure it can't be that bad.

I don't think I would. I would actually welcome a man because women are much more rough with you and rude as well. I've only had females and they all have been b*tches! I recently was at the ER getting that area checked and of course I had a female doctor. She was extremely rude, treated me like dirt and stayed as far away from me as she could. The male nurse was the only nice one as they usually are.

I prefer a woman to do that because if I had a male gyno it will be totally embarrassing and it looks rude too

Not at all. Actually I prefer to have a man over a woman. I just don't like the idea of another woman in that region for any reason. Call me a homophobe, but that's the way I like things for myself.
