This is Lizs niece. Im going to camp tomorrow and didnt get my period yet. Im expecting it soon and i feel gross but it could be the weather. However we have to go swimming at camp and have no choice. I dont want to get blood in the pool but im not suppose to use a tampon until i get my period. I dont even know how to use one and dont have much time to practice. Should i try putting in a tampon even though i dont have it yet to avoid accidents or since i dont have it just go swimming anyway. Im not allowed to miss any camp days unless im sick my mom doesnt understand. IMaybe i should fake feeling sick to get out of swimming? But you cant really do that since its the first day im so confused. I need help! Any ideas are welcome!

I believe that you should go swimming becasue that one girl is right there wont be pools of blood floating around you. Once , When i started getting my period I went swimming in a pool and then nothing happened ...it just got on my swimsuit the part nobody can see . So, yeah i've gone swimming when i had my period . I had no idea what to do either cause i had a Gym teacher for swimming and it was a guy and i would be embarrased telling him that i had my period and i could'nt go swimmming.

I had the same problem with a swim party years ago!
It's really hard to use tampons if you're not having your period, because, okay, I'm going to be a little graphic here, the blood in your vagina helps to lubricate the tampon as you put it in. If you've never used tampons, your vagina will be really tight, so it will be pretty uncomfortable at first no matter what, so the best way is to wait until you actually have blood in there.
I would go to the store, buy some tampons made for your type of flow (light, medium, heavy), and take them to camp with you. Then, if you do get your period at camp, (which I'm assuming you will), use the pictures on the instructions and try it yourself. I prefer inserting a tampon while standing up with one foot on the toilet, but some women prefer lying down. If you can't do it on your own, I would ask your counselor for advice on what to do - maybe you can get out of swimming or maybe she can get you a private place away from all the other girls, since it helps if you relax when you insert the tampon. Hope this helps!

Wear a tampon repeating twice wear a tampon you weather lie and it doesnt work at the end then later on u have to swim anyway and starting to see blood in the pool wear everyone can see or you just wear a tampon and you wont have to make excuses and you can jump in the water without being self conscious about yourself

Go swimming anyway. In most cases your cycle starts off slow and it doesn't flow much while you are in the water anyway. Its ok to practice using a tampon if you don't know how even when you don't have your period.

Do not use a tampon unless you have your period. Ever. Don't stress about it, I'm sure everything will be fine and even if you get your period, you will not have pools of blood floating behind you. I promise.

Once it starts, use a tampon. There HAS to be a female counselor there. She can stand outside the stall and tell you what to do if you need help. Obviously, she isn't going to physically help you, but you'll at least have someone to walk you through it if you've never used one before.

i would go ahead and go swimming because i was expecting mine for like a month and it never came. it's just because you're getting to that age and you're getting scared just go ahead and take some tampons with you that way if you do happen to start, you can use them. it's not hard and i'm sure (if you're not to modest) one of the other girls at camp could explain to you how to do it. me, on the other hand, i just learned how to do it myself.
