This only seems to happen to my questions and I wonder is it something wrong that I'm doing. Can anyone enlighten me?

yahoo wants you to have the option of cancelling out your answer, changing or adding to it, too, if you should decide. We all have that option on the questions we answer. You aren't doing a thing wrong!

In many places where you can post a question, answer or conversation, the owner of the "post" has the option to edit or delete their own posting. Some systems allow more control, such as moving, renaming or hiding posts.

Along with these options, certain groups of people called Moderators also have the same abilities, and a few others, such as freezing the conversation, moving a conversation or banning members to post.

Then, the bigwigs come in. These Admin folk can do all that and more - pretty much a master control over the whole board, site or forum.

Here at Yahoo! Answers, each member has basic member rights - to edit or delete their own questions and answers. The Yahoo! Team have moderator access, allowing them to edit or delete any question or answer, and then the site administrators then have the admin rights to control it all.

So, what you are seeing is not wrong or accidental, it is perfectly normal and you'll find the same things on other sites too where you can post.

Note, Usenet groups (also called newsgroups) have the ability to post but not edit or delete on most systems.

Whilst a question is accepting answers you can edit or delete any answer you give.

This is why you have the edit/delete option.

It only appears under your answer because you can only edit or delete your own answer, not those of others.

Once a question goes to voting or a best answer is selected by the questioner you lose this facility.

It happens to every bodies answer but 'edit /delete only shows up on the answer you give. I am a one finger typist and often when I answer a question somebody has got there before me. So when I submit my answer I can edit or delete it depending on other peoples answers.

This should happen to every answer you give. You can delete answers or edit them at any time.

Because it is your answer. You have the option to edit it, or delete it. You can't edit/delete other's answers, just your own.

You may have spotted a late spelling mistake or thought of a better way to phrase your question. You may change your mind about even asking the question. You have to be given the opportunity to alter or remove your question - its only fair.
