If you format your C drive, your files and applications will be removed from your system permanently... If you have another hard drive connected to your computer, I would move the files you want to keep to that hard drive. If not, you can burn the files to a CD or DVD...

I've had to reformate my C drive twice in the last 3 months. Buy yourself another drive at one of the big boxes like Circuit City or CompUSA. Hard drives are really cheap these days. After you install it make copies of everything you want to keep from the C drive and stick them on your new drive. Double check at the end because reformating is forever. :) It takes 9 hours for me to completely reformat a 120GB drive using the program that came with the hard drive. Microsoft's version does not catch everything. Plan on around 30 minutes to reinstall Windows. And you will have to reactivate your software by getting a new serial number. The phone number will show up during the failed attempt to register and you will end up talking to someone in India who will give you a new number. No hassles. Good luck.

Formatting the C drive will delete all of the files on the C drive, no exceptions. So back up anything you want to keep first.

short answer no, not unless you save them off your C Drive first to a cd or some other storage. the Format will erase the table that the computer needs to be able to locate the files, hence you delete it the computer cannot relocate them
