They have certainly made sure that they are one of the biggest reasons people will remember this world cup. I find it hard to believe that FIFA could not find better referee's than some they have chosen. This is a big wide world. I think they chose well known names more than the performances offered by those names. The referee's have done a woeful job on the whole and added much un needed controversy, but FIFA have changed rules at the drop of a hat also and directed referee's in certain directions. It was about how FIFA wanted the games refereed not how they just should have been refereed. Blatter has to go or the officiating at 2010 will be a disaster worse than we have seen in 06.

There are Portuguese referees in every major tournament. I just saw a list of ALL the referees in the World Cup and curious, not one is from Portugal. - FIFA don't like them. I don't know if that's good or bad.

Terrible. I would not run a pro league with the fellows who are officiating now.

the refs stink. like in the italy v usa game. 3 bloody reds!!! for crying out loud! those fouls weren't even reds (but one was). they need refs who know what they are doing, not refs who are card crazy.

I think that FIFA could have done better using High school officials instead.
