I once saw a party political broadcast on behalf of the Natural Law Party in which they demonstrated 'Yogic Flying'. It seemed to involved bouncing up and down on your ar5e whilst in a cross-legged position. I laughed so much some wee came out.

Levitation can only be achieved through a proper knowledge of The Force, young padwan. Keep practising.

No. A while ago there was a thing called Yogic Flying which was supposed to be levitating but was actually a really awkward way to bounce into a pile of cushions. Magicians never levitate or do any actual magic of any sort whatsoever; they just do illusions. They are all quite open about that when not actually on the job (in the non-biblical sense of course). A few people try to claim to perform miracles of that sort in a religious context; they are the worst sort of con artist and tend to prey on those without the education to question them.

I am advised on good authority that if you take the correct amount of hallucinary drugs you can levitate but I have no first hand experience.

Coleridge, Wilde and co. would be a help here, but unfortunately they died without leaving coherent reports

I did hear of a guy in Southend who had so much alcohol in that the local constabulary felt he was capable of walking on water. Does that count as levitation?

No.

It is "impossible" - unless they (the magicians) use aids such as wire harness (David Copperfield's flying illusion [ref 1]). Magnets form another explanation.

Another version involves a illusion known as Balducci Levitation [ref 2] and employed by David Blaine.
