Are you depressed? Feeling terrible, dejected, despair, despondent, disappointed, discouraged, disheartened, forlorn, gloomy, heavy hearted, hopeless, melancholy, unhappy or wretched?
Want to feel amused, amazed, delighted, aroused, astonished, ardent, delighted, comfortable, glad, happy, jubilant, pleased, tickled, lively, passionate, relaxed, satisfied, interested, encouraged...?
Steps
If you've been feeling this way for more than two weeks, AND if your sleep pattern or appetite (or both) have changed in any way, do not continue reading this article.
Seek the advice of a medical professional. You could be suffering from clinical depression. The good news is that with time and some hard work, you can feel better.
Smile as if everything you've ever wanted has come true. Do this even if you feel miserable.
Think about happy thoughts. Focus on the details.
Feel the joy of small miracles. Look for beauty in unexpected places.
To get your mind off your own problems, try to think of some way (big or small) you can help someone else.
Do something rewarding.
Don't compare yourself to other people. Compare yourself to you at your lowest point in the past and think about what's better now. Pat yourself on the back for it. If you think you're at your lowest point ever, then imagine one small thing (the tiniest thing you can think of) that you know
you can make better. And then move on from there.
Don't obsess about it or be hard on yourself if you still feel depressed or aren't happy. Nothing's more depressing than being angry at yourself for being depressed.
Tips
An alternative approach is to let yourself be sad. Try and get in touch with your sad feelings and let it all out. You might feel much better after a good, long cry. Remember, sadness is a natural human emotion - there's nothing wrong with you for feeling it!
Spend one hour out in the sunlight every day. This may be an old wives tale, but it has been known to have major real benefits. Don't forget to dress appropriately
Spend time with people. Even idiots. Particularly idiots.
They are more amusing. This is one reason that court jesters existed. These people don't even have to be your "friends." Human interaction is one of the fastest ways of gaining knowledge about one's self.
Don't listen to anyone who tells you to "snap out of it."
Ever wonder how you could become like the girls in Clueless, She’s All That, or Mean Girls? Well, you can if you follow these simple instructions. Soon, you’ll be strutting down the hallways of your school, greeting everyone with a smile and flaunting the latest fashion! Like, you know?
Steps
Remember who you are. You don’t have to become someone else to be popular. While you may make certain changes in your life, stay true to who you are inside. Don’t ditch your old friends simply because you’re making new ones. Try to welcome new, exciting things into your life without discarding all that you knew before.
Be confident. Popularity starts from within. If you know you’re cute, funny, and fun to be around, you’ll be able to share those qualities with others.
Be outgoing. Being shy won’t win you any new friends.
You’re going to have to get out there and talk to people. Whether it’s sidling up to popular girls in class or at lunch, getting yourself invited to the hottest parties, or running for a class officer position, make your name known. Don’t be afraid to talk to anyone.
Get involved. Popular girls are usually well-rounded, and comfortable in almost every sphere of the school. Join a sports team or club. This will help you to meet many new people and establish you in the school. Be sure to do something you actually like, people can tell when you’re faking. No one likes someone who does things just to be popular.
Feel good about your body. Let’s be honest, it helps to be cute if you want to be popular. But this doesn’t mean you have to starve yourself. Eating healthy and exercising is important and effective; so is staying clean with good hygiene. Drinking plenty of water (eight glasses a day!) can help your skin look great and improve your overall health. If you get to the point where you feel good about how you look, you can make others see that.
Keep up with fashion. It’s no secret that style can get you far in the girl world. Spend some time in popular stores like Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Forever 21 and, if you can afford it, Saks and Neiman Marcus. Better yet, get a job at one of these stores, so you can meet even more girls your age and also get a great discount on clothes! If you can't afford the fashionable stores, know how to hunt for bargains that look just as good! It’s also cool to go with your own style, adding individual touches that are really you. Accessories like earrings, belts, sashes, etc. can do wonders for a less-trendy outfit.
Take your hair for a ride. While not essential, a change to your hair could be just the wake-up call you need to feel confident and get out there as a popular girl. Go to a salon and do something dramatic, really blonde, lots of highlights, or even red. As with everything else, make sure your hair is well-groomed and taken care of as often as possible.
Apply makeup carefully. While most popular girls wear makeup, it’s important to be tasteful about it. You really want people to think you're not wearing any makeup at all.
Makeup can help you to emphasize things you like about your appearance, and draw attention away from things you don’t. Foundation, concealer, powder, blush, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara and lip gloss are all you need. If possible, carry these things around with you in a cute bag for touchups.
Also, take your makeup off as soon as you get home, so you can let your skin breathe.
Study hard. Being popular doesn’t mean being stupid.
Participate in class, do your homework, and don’t be afraid to be known as a smart girl. Just be sure you leave plenty of time for social activities. Let people know that academics are important to you, but are not your whole life. Show ‘em you know how to have fun, too!
Don’t believe the hype. You don’t have to be a b*tch to be popular. You can be friends with whomever you want. That’s what being popular is. Stay true to the things that are most important to you, and the rest will come with ease.
Tips
If you have acne, you don't have to wait to grow out of it nor do you have to stop eating chocolate; go to the dermatologist. They can help with mild acne. Be sure to implement a face-care routine at home, as well.
Posture is important. Don’t slouch!
It can help if you have an older sibling in the school who can get you acquainted with older, popular people. Just don't hang around them all the time.
Sadly, sex may make you the talk of the school, but do you really want to be popular for that reason?
One simple thing you need to understand is that in order to be popular, you need to like people and show it. Be friendly and interested with many people -- and many of them will like you back. You don't win popularity by hiding in the corner or expecting people to approach you and suddenly appreciate you for the true gem you are.
Everybody's alike, people respond when you show them friendliness and interest.
Warnings
Don’t drink or do drugs because you think it will make you popular. Holding true to your beliefs and values will get you more friends than any drugs will.
Girls do have a tendency to get jealous and may spread rumors about you as you become more popular. Be prepared to deal with this in a calm and effective way.
Using three exclamation points at the end of every sentence makes you look stupid (!!!). You don't have to sound stupid to be popular.
This takes time--don't expect to become popular in a day or two.
Don’t try too hard!
