No. I think the reason we Scots are not supportive of England in this world cup is that we are sick of hearing about 1966. 40 years is more than enough of bringing it up at every sporting event.

No. Here's what I think:

I supported Portugal in the last game. It's a family thing.
What I do think is that any Scot who makes a point of supporting a team purely because they're playing against England is being anti-English, as well as being childish and embarrassing.
Chatted to my Dad about this today. He said he was relieved England were out. I know what he means - if England had brought the cup home every Scot would have sold their radios on ebay just to get away from the incessant commentary.
But being relieved is different from being jubilant. Celebrating England going out purely because it's them from that side of the border is stoopid. Trying to link it in with ancient Scottish history is even worse, and shows a complete lack of respect for that history. Not to mention a lack of self-respect. Those who don't respect themselves aren't very credible when they claim to be proud of their nation.

Not at all, if your team aren't there to support, as ours (england) are now not, why would you pick another country, just because it shares the same landmass as yours? Its personal, either way is fine, but the scots, more than the english, see themselves as an independent nation, the English (and I am) tend to view the scots as an annexe of England that we use to our own satisfaction, but then that's a typical English attitude. It would be like England fans supporting France now that we are no longer in it, because, hey, France is only a few miles off our coastline.

No. It's a free country, your allowed to support or not support whom you like. Being Anti-English is when you make all your choices on the involvement of the English. For example, if you choose your tv chanels, radio stations, bank, bus, car, magazines, newspapers, etc, all on whether they were owned or produced by the English then that is Anti - English.
If you supported teams, e.g. Portugal, because they have won every game they played in the world cup then that is being a intelligent. If you supported a team which seems to rely more on luck than skill in winning, lacks motivation, and then whines when they loose, this isn't being clever.

Certainly not. You are free to chose whichever team you care to support. The difference is some of those mindless morons who are making all kinds of anti-English statements using the World Cup as a stage for their hate speech. Probably most people feel we are all British and should support England but if you chose to be different for a football reason then I dont see why anyone should object.

No we just don't like their football team. It would be a kin to a Canadian supporting the US Soccer team. I am a Scot and a Canadian and I booed the English and US teams equally but I have friends that are English and American just don't root for their sports teams thats all.

Not at all, but if you trash a car because it has flags on it, or if you knuckle someone just cos they want (ed ) England to win, then you are.
The people who assaulted England supporters are in my opinion the Scottish equivalent of the English hooligans who were banned from travelling.

Well, I'm an American and I don't support England, but it's not because of post-colonial hostilities... Support whomever you want, man. If you really wanted to be anti-English, you would have just supported whomever they were playing that day... That's what I did. :)
