I don't want to buy another battery, but I have stripped the bolt hole on a side-post battery. Is there anything I can do/use to be able to tighten the cable to the battery?

Get some J.B. Weld, follow instructions, fill the hole with j.b. Screw in a headless bolt , tighten the cable with a nut.

you can try tapping the hole with a larger thread size but then you have to make the hole in the battery cable bigger also....your best bet after all the hassle and hopes of it working is replace the battery that way you know there won't be a possiblity of corrison building up with a potential loose cable

Go to an auto parts store they may have something for that problem, but you probably need a new battery. You could also try jamming a piece of metal in the hole before you screw in the bolt., but that is risky.

You can get a tube of liquid metal to fill in the hole, screw the cable bolt in, and let it sit to harden.

Or, you can tap a larger threaded hole and get a bolt to fit the new threads.

see if you can put a threaded stud in there, and then tighten to the stud, the battery post is lead, and it should be easy to tap, and it will only cost a few bucks....chances are it won't work, but hey, you already have to get a new battery anyway.

Use a larger tap and bolt--this time don't tighten it so tight.

you can dry using a larger self-tapping screw but this is really only temperary,, if you don't want to end up stranded some wheres it would be best to go for a new one,, if a cheaper one
