Well, I leave my pc on all night on occasion, and during those nights sometimes it turns off and doesn't turn back on in the morning when I manually press the power-on button on my tower. And now and days, when it does turn off while I'm using it I'd have to go to the back of the tower reconnect and fiddle around with the power plug and the power switch. Any idea why it's doing that? (I have a theory it's because it might be overheating but I started having this problem a few months ago, and I've been leaving it on overnight as I am now when I first got my pc)

If it starts after you fiddle with the power cord or switch it may be either the power supply or the cord. Cheap test first - try it with a different power cord, they are all the same. If that doesn't do it you need a new power supply. If it is the power supply I would quit using it until it is replaced. A faulty power supply can fry a lot of other parts in your computer.

"That sounds like a power supply problem. Im no expert but post the details of your pc and power supply."

"A first step would be to download Everest Home Edition. The freeware version so you're able to confirm that it is actually overheating of the CPU or mobo. It could also be the PSU.

Could be your cooling fan isn't working. This is what keeps the CPU cool. To know for sure is to remove the panel from the computer and see if the fan is spinning inside on the CPU chip.

It happened to me, it's not that expensive to replace.

Best of luck. "

Check under :

Start-> Control Panel-> Power Options

And see if your computer is set to "Hibernate" or "Sleep". If so turn it off, usually this is done by setting the time limit to '0' but many times the option "Do not go to sleep/hibernate" will be present.

Or this could be mechanical, take it to your local PC shop and they should be able to run a diagnostic to see if your PSU is funky. And subsequently replace it.

If it turns on after you fiddle with the wires, it sounds like a loose wire. The switch might be going.

Is there a chance that the wires could be getting kicked or moved by your feet or a pet?

Replace the power supply. The capacitors are shorting.
