The treatment of Dungeons and Dragons as witchcraft typically arises from a species of theological argument which contends that the portrayal of magic, here understood as secular (not sacred), diminishes genuinely sacred "magics" (such as miracles) sanctioned by various religions, especially Christianity. Per the way you phrase your own question, you underscore the danger some perceive: those who conceive of D&D as witchcraft want to make sure that the "fake bs on a piece of paper and in your head" is sharply distinguished from religious practice, which sometimes has the same basis.

D & D isn't witchcraft. Take it from a witch, D & D is far from witchcraft. All of the magic that is used in the game is far from what real magick is. D & D is just a game to pass the time. There is nothing wrong with letting yourself escape into fantacy, so long as you are able to tell the difference from "real" (Whatever that is) and fantacy.

First and foremost it is a GAME.
I don't read into the game as others have. I enjoy playing based on the fact I can build the strength, abilities and etc of my character. Plus, I get to enjoy playing the game with other people who enjoy the game as well.
This game has been around since I was kid and I am 34. I don't suggest playing it morning, noon, and night. However, it is a game for all ages, who have similar interests.
It is a role playing game, and not many board games today have this feature.
I also agree with you, the oujia board is in my opinion witchcraft.
However, this is just my opinion....

Well, I've heard that one before, and I would just wonder how much stock you place in the substance of the game. Do you think wizards are real, do you think you have magic powers?
If not, then you're probably not practicing witchcraft. I'd ask him not to worry about it, don't get mad about a role-playing game...
And, don't spend TOO much time playing the game, either...

Human nature is to marginalize and segregate human beings for all way of motives. D&D gamers aren't any more readioy recognizable. As you pronounced they arrive from all walks of existence and assorted backgrounds. I truly have even met gamers who hate analyzing. which could look like a hinderence to taking area in given the quantity of analyzing fabric that's needed for the game. many times they get made interesting of because they are the 'sensible' youthful ones, the 'wierd' youthful ones. So the 'in' crowd use their social status to extra segregate them and make themselves sense better. that's the major reason human beings denegrate somebody else or team of persons. They sense the want to positioned somebody else all the way down to make themselves sense better about themselves.

It is a game. Go ahead and play it.
Ask your friend if he ever dressed up for Halloween, then ask him what Halloween is all about.
I have shut a few people up that way when they talk about the evils of Harry Potter.
