if you only have mild acne, i really dont think any dermatologist is going to prescribe you accutane. my brother had severe ance and they didnt even want to prescribe it to him only after they tried every thing on the market. if your a woman you cant conceive a child because it could have serious effects on your unborn child (mental retardation, disfigurement and so one). also you cant be out in the sun. you face peels very badly. and if you dont have insurance you cant afford it. its like 1000 dollars per refill or something like that.

I went on accutane a long time ago. I didn't have severe acne but very stubborn acne. It worked really well after I got through the first month, in which it got a lot worse and my skin dried out substantially. Like the other answer be prepared to use a lot of moisturizer but especially find yourself an effective lip moisturizer. It also made my personality change a lot, I became more lethargic (slept a lot) and moody. Talk to you doctor, or a dermatologist to get the best solution for you. An if you do go on accutane make sure to keep an eye on your behavior it affects people differently. It works though, have you considered going on birth control...that can help too.

I would recommend it but only as a last resort. It is a VERY powerful drug with many side effects. There are different strength doses, so if your acne is mild your doctor might be willing to prescribe a lower dose, but it will still work just the same. The lower dosage pills are sometimes given as a 'booster' if you have to take it a year or so after your initial treatment.
It will dry out EVERY part of your body, so be ready to use lots of moisturizers and lip treatments, even eye drops!
It can cause horrible birth defects, so you can not take it if you are or plan on becoming pregnant, and you will have to be on a form of birth control Roche (the company that manufactures accutane) will make you sign a pledge thing for pregnancy. {see the link to their site}
There is also a possibility that your doctor will make you have a blood test every month to check for pregnancy and other levels/reactions in your system, such as lipids.
It really is a good choice, but be sure to do your own research before you take it!!!

Accutane was the ONLY thing that helped my acne and I've been acne free for 6 years now. The big danger about taking it is if you get pregnant, you will (not could) but you will have a severely deformed baby.
You need to be monitored by a doctor while taking it. They gave me blood tests once a month.

I've seen miraculous results with Accutane. It's definitely the way to go if you have the money and will-power not to commit suicide while on it. I heard it causes brutal depression.
