Every news helicopter pilot in the air got his experience flying for the military, a news helicopter could carry at least three or four 'passengers' without a problem, and I've picked people out of raging rivers whereas the water flooding New Orleans was a pussycat in comparison, and one human life is worth more than any new camera - and, Frank S, you dumb bigot, every one is equal in reality, not just in some people's minds - can I assume that if you were in that New Orleans flood, you wouldn't have accepted a pick-up if a black pilot was flying it?

The likely reason is liability. Imagine the lawsuits that could be filed in the event the chopper crashed or a person was dropped.
Also, a media helicopter is not equipped to be a rescue vehicle. And I don't think one of those things can safely land on a rooftop. The pilot's first obligation is the safety of his passengers.

Because generally news helicopters aren't equipped with the equipment to extract people from rooftops, water, or from bridges.
The real question is why didn't Mayor McChocolate and the city leaders take action to evacuate the citizens? They dropped the ball, and blame everyone else.

The news helicopters couldn't hold anyone else...you can only fit so many people in one helicopter...plus I don't think news reporters were trained to save people off a roof tops....they probably told rescuers where the people were.

Because they had crew members and equipment , cause they was afraid , cause they didn't think it was right to take one or two people and not the rest
It can be many reasons why
I just know they help the best way they could by doing their job and reporting the news

They are equipped for news photography work, not search and rescue, like the Coast Guard and other military helicopters.

A better question is why didn't some of those people leave New Orleans BEFORE Katrina hit?

Most pilots dont have the experience or know how to do a rescue on that caliber. The ones that did (quite a few incidentally) were there helping

News helicopters aren't suited to carry "cargo" or in this case people.
