It could be if you try to manage it yourself. There are many real estate companies and property managers who will do it for 10% of the rent. They will collect the rent and deposit it into your bank, take care of taxes and insurance, take care of any repairs if needed, etc. and send you a monthly statement of the rents disposition. It's worth it!!!

My husband and I moved from Cincinnati to Indianapolis and kept our Cincinnati house. We thought we would move back. So we rented it with the help of a property manager. We have had it for 12 years. It is really much harder than we thought. The money would have gotten better returns and been a lot easier in a investment account. We moved on with our lives and I wonder if we will ever move back. Everything is so much more difficult when you are out of town. No unless you are a very special type of person I would not recommend it. It has not been terrible but it sure would have be simpler to sell it at the time.
