Visiting Chicago from out-of-state from Dec. 30th to Jan. 1st. Three couples; so not looking for romantic fun. Would like to hear some live music, drink some affordable drinks, and have a blast until early a.m.

When you're flying from Orlando to Chicago for the New Years weekend, you tend to want to get planning started a wee bit early. Airline ticket prices go up every week.

Well, there's always a big party at the Navy Pier Ballroom. It's at the end of the peer and people dress up, get blotto and wave at the TV cameras that do a live remote their every year. There are fireworks on the pier at Midnight and it's a great time.
There are about 50 million clubs here too, so take your pick. They range from fancy clubs where the "hip" people hang out, to grungy-but-nice blues clubs where everybody is casual and has a good time (Buddy Guy's Legends, Kingston Mines). It depends on what type of music you prefer.
Most of the bigger hotels have special ballroom dinner/dancing things. You might even be able to contact them now to get info. In fact it might be a good idea to see if you can book now. There may be a discount of some sort.
Finally, I've never done it, but I've always wanted to spend New Year's Eve in the Signature Room at the top of the John Hancock building. usually it's free to go to the bar up there, but I'm going to guess that they have something special going on on NYE... but it would be great to ring in the new year and look DOWN on the fireworks at navy Pier.

I would look into getting a package at a bar or hotel. The best social life for that time will be on the northside so I would look for bar packages around there. Also, shop for a hotel early so you get a better deal. Last year I stayed at the W on Lake Shore Drive and it was great. Two years ago I satayed at the Hilton Towers on Michigan Ave and that was good too.

I doubt any bars / clubs / pubs have already got any parties or events planned or are open for bookings, but to start an evening a visit to
Gino's East Restaurant, 633 N. Wells St. is a must
But to find a party or something I think you need to wait for a few months more ?

Visited Chicago formerly superb: loads of issues to confirm and do, super museums, super nutrition, super jazz golf equipment, cubs, bears, white sox, blackhawks, high quality human beings worst: costly, and an excellent kind of homeless people who come as much as you each and each 5 minutes and ask for money (i'm from manhattan city, and the homeless in Chicago are lots greater aggressive)
