lab, like almost all labs, sets the normal result range for a particular test so that 95% of our healthy patients fall within the normal range. That means that 5% of our healthy patients fall outside of the normal range, even when there is nothing wrong with them. Thus an abnormal test does not necessarily mean that there is something wrong with you. Statistically if you have 20 or 30 individual tests run as part of a panel, chances are 1 or 2 will be slightly outside the normal range. Part of what you see your doctor for is to interpret whether or not these changes are significant.

Well, I guess that would be anything that she/he is looking for. A blood test is very specific to what they are looking for. Normally, when a doctor pulls blood they are looking for cholesterol levels, and other health related issues.
When I was a teen my doctor did run a steroids test on me, but my parents knew what he was doing. I would say in most cases a doctor is going to tell you, or someone responsible for you (parents, workplace) what they are looking for.
All in all, I would say that blood tests, in all of their varieties can tell someone a great deal about a person. From what they eat/take/smoke all the way to very specifics, like am I pregnant or do I have an STD. But in the end, No they will not tell if you are pulling your chain a bit to often.

Hi,
Lol your doctor can not find out whether your jerking yourself off based on blood test results unless you tell him that youself! So dont worry about that.
A blood test finds out how your general health is. Basically it checks whether your cell counts are within normal range, whether you have a infection, how your organs are working, if your diabetic or have heamoglobbin problems,Anemic etc etc.
The list goes on and on. Blood tests can be conducted to check for anything health wise. The above is just the basic things but it really depends on what you're being tested for.

a positve is a positve is a postive...you're pregnant!!!!! Congrats!!!! I know the blood test will say positive, really the only way to get a false positive is by testing while the HCG trigger shots are still in your blood stream.

blood glucose, cholesterol, how your organs are working, about haemoglobin, and lots more, depends which one you did! For example there are HIV tests etc.
