... because they just don't get why they continue to fail.
Starting with the collective hysteria and hype fed by the so-called media experts who are are in fact extremely biased pundits and commentators, that do not help at all with their slanted, culturally racist perspectives, lots of double standards and extremely selective opinions.
They feed the hype. They do not comment when it's to their convenience ( unbelievable aah's and long pauses and silences during all the WC England games)
Need examples:
Paul Robinson tips the ball over the bar - should have been a corner for the opposition - no comment.
Paul Robinson kicks the ball behind the goal line just to to waste time, nothing - no comment.
They even infer what they cannot possibly prove, with what can only be described as conspiratioral delusion and imagination with regard to Ronaldo's wink and pouting.
Fact - Rooney kicked an oponent in the groin, in the the balls!
Many English fans sit in front of the TV saying yeah, well done Roon and then cry-wolf and not expect retribution when opposite other players mislead, dive or cheat?
The kick in the balls is the main fact. Stick to this fact, not the wink, not the fait-diver of utter surprise in Ronaldo's loyalty: how dare he actually place Portugal interests and his fellow teammate over Man U's? This actually surprises them? They are either gullible fools or still living in a past era of Imperial servitude.
Beckam is hurt - Nuno Valente tackled him. That is not a factual observation - no tackle actually ever occurred.
Lennon is fouled, must be penalty .... oh oops sorry . We've only nerved and inflamed most of you - some sort of bad joke. Please do excuse us because we are collectively and very selectivelly blind.
If this behaviour were done by anyone else they would be accusing them of being liars, cheaters, divers, time wasters - all the usual branding, stereotype views and accusations.
Want more double standards and total lack of perspective - invert the Rooney / Ronaldo role (not so hard taking into consideration both players). Imagine the commentators, not to mention the tabloids, smarting on how astute and clever Rooney had been and how low Ronaldo was with that absolutely horrendous, ungentlemanly and atrocious tackle.
England have been unable to outdo little tiny Portugal (not exactly over achievers) on 3 different occasions spanning 10 years.
Imagine these same England players coached by José Mourinho.
Yes I know just that thought really hurts - but then you would now be making him a Sir for winning this and possibly the next World Cups.

No, because the English go on and on about how great their EPL is and look at the players--very little skill, can't shoot (Hello, Frank Lampard, the net is this way) worth a damn, play a BORING style ever since they started coming back into World Cup Finals in 1982.
Land of Eng is never ever going to win anything until they wake up and (a) practice how to take penalty kicks or (b) better yet actaully attack during the match so PKs are unnecesary.
I'll admit most teams now are brutally boring to watch in 2006 but Land of Eng is one of the most stultyfying. It's unbelievable to me that a nation that invented the game is not the leader in showing the world how the game shoudl be played.
To hype guys like Beckham or Gerrard as a great stars is an insult to real English stars like Matthews, Finney, Charlton, etc., who came before them. Have the English learned nothing after Hungary took them to pieces in the '50s?

I am not smirking I am Hee Hawing. They didnt lose in penalties in the final and the ref didnt get a chance to award Ballack his goal that never was but thay are still out. We have had to listen to the drivvle for the past 40 years I couldnt take another 40 years. They are out and thats that. I can now watch the final in peace and enjoy it. They didnt really play anybody to get to where they did. As soon as they came up against a decent team they were out.

I presume you mean countries still in the World Cup? Maybe because they don't want to play against England.
I am from Holland and here (and in Belgium as far as I know) almost everyone was supporting England. BTW Supporting Portugal is not an option. Look at the way they play/cheat.

Come on, we've all smirked at other country's downfalls. How many of us English fans can honestly say we didn't smirk/laugh out loud when France failed to make the knockout stages in 2002?
It's all part of the competition!
I believe the Germans call it 'schadenfreude'.

I am Portuguese living in England and the last week leading up to yesterday's match has been quite annoying. I put up with colleagues taking the mick out of me and generally just giving me hard time. So yes, I am pleased that Portugal beat EnglanD yesterday. He who laughs last, laughs best. I can't wait to get to work tomorrow.

Because the louder elements of the English public and media like to think that England has a god given right to win everything. And it gets up everyone else's noses!
PS: I am English

Because England are always saying "when we win" or "our next match" etc. instead of if we win & if we get through to a next match.
They, clearly, thought that the Portugal match was justa formality & can't take failure. They always blame everyone else.
The reason they lost was they they were beaten by a better team.
