I am 8 weeks pregnant with my first child, and I'm excited, but scared to death about the delivery process! Any advice, experiences, or support that you all could share with me would be helpful! Thanks.

First, congratulations! I loved being pregnant, and I had my baby on April 7th.
I suggest that you join ivillage.com, they have message boards for women who are due in the same month. You share your whole pregnancy with them! It's really fun going through it with someone. There is the same thing at the what to expect when you're expecting website, but you have to pay for it.

I had a routine pregnancy and a routine delivery! It actually went REALLY fast, my water broke at 37 weeks (three weeks early) at 9.30 at night. We got to the hospital at 10:40, i was 3cms at midnight, 5 cms at 1AM and 7cms at 2AM. I pushed for about 15 minutes (about 4 times) and at 3:05AM i had my baby!

Let no one fool you...it's PAINFUL. But you get through it. And as soon as the baby is out, the pain is gone. It's amazing. Not because you are all happy and you have your baby...the pain just ends. You can get through it because you know it's not going to last forever, and when there isnt a contraction there is no residual pain. So its like ow ow ow ow ow ahhhhh. And in between you can talk and laugh and everything.
When you feel like you have to poop, you start pushing! That's a weird feeling, but it comes naturally, too.
Just remember that SO MANY WOMEN have gone through childbirth naturally, and that means you can too.
Honestly, I'm so proud of myself that i did it naturally, without any medication, nothing. I really could have done it at home with an enthusiastic friend. (that OB really gets you going when she sceams PUSH at you!...you will appreciate the staff more than you think, bc generally the husbands are useless...inspiring, but useless)
But next time, I'm having the epidural.
Good luck!!

Congrats on your pregnancy. I don't want to scare you, but my first delivery experience was so hard on me. The doctor made a mistake in measuring my son on the ultrasound. My son ended up weighing 9.4 pounds. He was too big and it should have been a cesarean section, but i made it through it. I swore that I would never do it again, but I did. My second was a lot easier. They watched her size very closely. The doctor took her a month early, and she weighed 7.5 pounds. Every delivery experience is going to be different. Just know that women are amazing beings and can do many unbelievable things including child birth. No matter how it goes, it is all worth it in the end when you have a beautiful baby to love and care for.

P.S. My mom had me with no pain killers, and I weighed 9.6 pounds. Good luck.

first two were really good answers, the only thing I would add is GET THE EPIDURAL lol. If you don't you will wish you had lol. Some people it's easier on, some harder. If you exercise frequently... walking, ect... then your labor will be even easier. Good luck and congratulations.

I also wanted to add in case you have to have a c-section, which i did with my last two.... it's a little tougher recovery, but as long as you take it easy and follow the instructions you doc give you you'll be fine. And if anytime during a c-section you feel ANY pain... tell them immediatly...the drugs wore off during my first c-section lol... next thing I knew I woke up in the recovery room.

I will tell you right now it is the contractions that hurt. Delivering doesn't hurt at the the contractions are the worst and once the baby comes out and they put it on your belly it was worth it. I was only in labor for 5 and half hours and only had to push 4 times, mine was easy.
My advise to you is, keep exercising. Walk everyday, don't get lazy, that is one thing the Dr. told me would help labor and delivery, also eat healthy. Just don't worry, it isn't as bad as all the movies make it
Congrats on your baby and you'll be fine, just eat healthy and exercise.

I was scared with my first child too. He was 4 days late they had to induce me. I was in labor for 18 hours, the first 8 hours i went without an epidural. After that I couldn't take the pain so I got the drugs. I wouldn't dialate past 5 cm. When they went to give me the second dose of drugs, I had to be rushed to the delivery room. My sons' heart rate started to drop, I had to have an emergency c-section. My mother coundn't even be in there with me, had to stand in the hall. I felt them cut me open, and push him out. The drugs didn't kick in before they cut me open. When the got him out he was perfectly fine, except when they cut me open they cut his head. He will be 3 years old on 9-11, the scar is still there but it is very faint.

i have a 21 month old son. i had an appt. for nst that day. (they monitor the baby and check amniotic fluid) the nurse asked me if i was feeling the contractions. they were six minutes apart. i had no idea that i was in labor. almost 41 weeks pregnant. well that night i had woken up because i was just feeling sick like anxious and nausea. well ended going to my dr's office because i was like you nervous and didn't know what to expect. well my dr ended up sending me back to the hospital to be induced because i had a very little amount of amniotic fluid. i tried not to get the epidural but had to like 6 hours after getting the pitocin and than them breaking my water bag. when they broke my water that is when my contractions were so hard and rough for me. i needed the epidural by than cause i was shaking and just in a lot of pain. well they say when you get induced you hurt more because they are forcing your body to go into active labor. i check in to the hospital like at 4:30pm and had him like 3:10am. so about 11 hours of labor. the dr's and nurses said that was pretty quick for a first baby. (induced) all i can say is be strong and don't worry yourself. there is website that you can go on. about.pregnancy.com this is a great website. baby stories and just everything you need to know about having a baby.... hope it helps. last thing keep open minded!
