Not really.
At my school (and in my county) there are people with the same last names who are not related to each other. And, do mosst teachers use both names to call on someone? No.
When you go to work, do they call you by your first and last name? Probably not. Unless you're in trouble.

Not at all. My brother has a middle name and my father didn't, but otherwise they have the same first and last name.
In a given area, a surname might be fairly common, probably due to a common ancestor. The chances of having a first and last name the same is as wild as one might think, especially if given names are taken from say a common uncle or aunt. Indeed, I know of a situation where two girls in the same class had all three names the same!

In some places, it is tradition that the father chooses the first name, and the mother chooses the second (middle) name. Unfortunately, it makes it very obvious when the father was not around at childbirth. To hide that fact, some women give their child two names so that they don't feel out of place later in life.
Some folks give their child just a letter for a middle name so that it sounds good for a nick name. James P would be JP, etc.
My youngest brother has no middle name, or initial. He's the only one out of us nine kids. I guess my parents ran out of ideas.

Seriously, the last names Smith, Anderson, Fuller, etc. there have got to be a thousand people with that name. If u have something uncommon, yeah that's true, but type ur name on google. Even with ur middle name there will be a lot of other people with the exact same name.

Its not as hard as you think!!
I live in a pretty small town and found out there was another woman with my SAME name and same approximate age. We had the same doctors and I've gotten phone calls and bills for her.
My middle name is what helped when they mixed up her file and my file at our doc's office.
On a more sentimenta level, we gave our kids their own first names, but their middle names are in honor of family members.

lots of year ago last names didn't exist either, the people had their fisrt name and they were referenced to being the son of someone from XYZ town....as the population grew I guess they invented last names to identify them better and then middle names to specify more... now in some families you have 2nd generations ans 3rd and 4th and so on... but the population is so big now that I guess people just gave up and instead you'll see people inventing crazy names to be unique lol...
I don't know this is just my point of view...

Back in the day a childs middle name was his Mothers maiden name. ie...George WALKER Bush, William JEFFERSON Cliton etc. It was a nod to the Wife's Family. We just give them out willy nilly now, sometimes as a gesture to friends, hence some folks have 2 middle names!

I think that middle names exist only so that people who don't like their middle name can avoid telling people.
