Cowboy Bebop has an AWESOME story, and one of the best soundtracks EVER put together, period.

Mobile Suit: Gundam Wing has a really good story about humanity as it strives to quell the warring beast inside itself, and move towards pacifism. Endless Waltz ties everything together nicely, and some of the music is really good. The Mechs are simply beautiful, for engines of destruction.

For an American Edited Story, butchered together from three different Anime cartoons.... Robotech is a REALLY GREAT saga told over three generations. It was one of my first introductions to Anime, so I have a real soft spot for it in my heart. New Generation, the Story of Scott Bernard and his rebels looking for Reflex point is my favorite of the three chapters. Its suprisingly good stuff, even the Masters Chapter, which is the worst of the three in my opinion. (There is a 4th Chapter, The Sentinels which is 3 basically slapped together episodes that come as a special edition in one of the box sets, which is cool to watch because two of the main characters from Macross finally get Married. I dont want to spoil it for you, but it only took them like 13 freaking years.)

If youre looking for a benchmark story to watch, simply for art's sake.... Akira is the one. The story is a little compact and confusing, because they basically cramed 10 lbs of stuff into a 5 lbs. bag. Still, the animation is some of the best you will ever see.

Bottom line, if I had to recommend ANY of these, I'd go with Bebop first.... its simply amazing, and the story is astounding. The music alone is worth the price of admission. But if you like things that blow up and big honkin' Robots.... Gundam Wing or Robotech wont do you wrong.

Let's see... Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell SAC, FLCL, Samurai Champloo(it grows on one), Trigun, Lupin III, Boogiepop Phantom, Rurouni Kenshin, and Yu Yu Hakusho(laugh if you want). I love the InuYasha manga, but not the anime because of the dub. (Fruits Basket manga is awesome too!!)

damn i cant decide i like them all, but to satisfy u i'll give some thing.

ghost in the shell my all time favorite b'cause i can't understand most of the things in that shows and that's what i like.

inuyasha,DBZ,getbackers, journey to the west 1&2, flame of recca, shadow skills r some of my favorite action series and oh .. how can i forget gundam.
