By rights, you should never have to pump the tank if it is working correctly. If you have to pump it, you are starting to have problems. The most common thing that will kill the tank is strong concentrations of acids and soaps. They will kill the bacteria that works in the tank and breaks down the solids. If you are worried, flush several packets of Fleichmans yeast down the toilet at night and run enough water to get it to the tank. Let the yeast start working, and that should restart the tank!! A little story to add, we had to start a dead tank once while the lid was dug off with a dead animal off the road. As long as the bacteria can start and work, the tank will be OK! Good luck!!! (and don't try the dead animal trick unless you really have to!!! lol)

It depends on the septic tank and home size.
Generally people used to pump it on every 3 years and that keeps your drainage system much flowless...

depends upon usage. We have 2 person household and do it every 3 years. I don't use Rid -X, a septic cleaner said a pkg of yeast every month or so works fine. It does.

been 30 years since we pumped ours. so far so good. the more water you put down the drains the harder it is on septic tank lines. Its not the tank that has the trouble, it is the lines. yest does help every now and then.

depends on the size of the tank and the number of people using facilities in your home. 6 months is standard most places or any time your red full-indicator light is lit. more often won't hurt but less often could potentially cause lots of problems.

Our health department requires pumping out every 3 years. I live in NJ. Check if your local code requires it.
