I love Pirates of the Caribbean 1 & 2. But the ad's for Dead Man's Chest are on almost every channel like 10 times a day and then a lot of channels have an "on the set" thing (which I don't watch anymore). I feel like i'm seeing so many scenes that not much of the movie will be a surprise when it does come out.

Sometimes they do over advertise to the point that there is very little surprise in the movie.
POTC2 and 3 Both could relax and know that the movie will be OK as long as they live up to the first one. I have no doubt that they will. They are movies that I am highly interested in so the ads are not a turn off.
There was a movie out awhile back that I had known was coming out and the ads on it where in your face everywhere you turned much like the Cars movie now. I skipped them the fist I can not even recall the movie....SO how good was the ads in the end? Cars seems to have run out of gas already. I have heard mixed reviews on it most adults thinks it good and the kids ho-hum. The toys seem to be everywhere but not really moving. To me a kids movie that has toys that does not sale is a bomb.

Advertising can break a movie as much as make it.

I think the whole movie is over-advertised. There are backpacks that range from $30 to folders to key chains for $1.50. There are pens, even costumes and wigs being sold at the Disney store. The History Channel is even showing a special on the "real pirates of the caribbean". At the movies, they are selling platic collector's cups. There is so much going on to promote the movie it's unbelieveable.

Maybe you watch too much TV, I have only seen like 2 in a month! So, in answer to your question, no. I also don't believe that you can over-advertise Johnny Depp!

really? so from all the scenes you've seen in the ads you can basically tell me what happens in the movie, right? I do agree that they might be overdoing it a bit. I mean publicity is one thing but making people sick of hearing about it is another.

I've only seen a few and I think I watch a fair amount of tv. I haven't been saturated yet. Can't wait to see it.
