Yes, animals can behave homosexually. When I was in 8th grade, I had to do extensive research on marsupials. (At that time, I was slightly homophobic since I come from a very insular community.) I was SHOCKED to read scientific studies and animal behaviorists' reports about the rare homosexual behavior among opossums, etc. It seems to be more commonly observed between female animals!
From a biological standpoint, I'd have to conclude that these particular animals have bad genes, since biological success is defined by procreation and passing on your "good" genetic material. Survival of the species. A dog that stands by a roadway with cars rushing by...has bad genes.
From a human standpoint, success is defined in so many variable ways. By far, the most satisfying success is to find a life-long partner.

Yes they can, I once read an article on a magazine about two gay penguins, I first posted bears, but I checked and actually they are penguins.
jfrabell is right, overpopulation can lead to homosexuality in several animal species. The zoologist Desmond Morris recently said in an interview about his new book, that in human maybe homosexuality is a response to overpopulation in the most overpoupulated cities.

Yes. Some animals do it out of frustration. However there is a certain type of monkey that is matriarchal. The females only mate with the men when they choose to procreate, all other sexual urges are derived from other females. Apparently this also helps to build social structure and bonding. most species of animals display some form of homosexual activity. for example, about 1 in 11 goats are homosexual. some species even have higher proportions of homosexual populations than humans do. some animals like certain kinds of fishes and frogs will actually physically change their sex if the balance of males to females is disproportionately unbalanced. neat, huh?

According to a zoologist, Desmond Morris, overcrowding can result in homosexuality. Hence, animals can be homosexuals if they are in a sufficiently large number in a small place.

Yes. Studies have shown monkeys masturbating and sodomizing monkeys of the same sex, even though they have sex with the opposite gender as well. Also, there is a species of lizard that has eliminated all of the male gender of the species. The female lizards mount and hump eachother which causes the release of a fertalized egg, and it is always female.

No real evidence. Despite this talk about penguins (1out God only knows event) there is no widespread occurence of such activity. Any attempts to try to classify such behavour in other creatures is gay politics, not science. Otherwise we would see it on a wide basis. So to answer the question, no it's a crock.

NO, they never choose a same sex when both sexes are present. The do in conditions like men in jail! That doesn't mean they feel any attraction. It's a chemical disturb.
