Well, my son and I discussed this. He's almost 14 and says he wouldn't let his kids listen to it. I would discuss the music and let my son know I don't approve of it. But, I'm afraid that if I said he absolutly couldn't, it would make it even more appealing. Even if he never listened to it around me, I can't make sure he's not listening to it when he's at a friend's house. All I can do is teach him what is good or bad for him and hope he makes good decisions.

It's called parenting. Some music can influence a childs behavior whether you believe it or not. My son would absolutely be forbidden to listen to him because I am his parent & I know what's best for him. What goes in comes out. Meaning if that's what you are listening to alot then it is getting inside you & will eventually come out. You're actions will mimick what is getting into your mind. So think about what you see & hear & listen to your mom. When I was a kid I thought I knew it all to. When I finally grew into an adult I realized my parents were right about everything. At least your mom cares about you. Some kids aren't so lucky. Try looking at it that way. Found a few websites that might help explain also. Have a good day. God bless.

I am. I want the music that my children listen to to not only confirm the lessons I try to teach them (about telling the truth and other moral issues), but also to do no harm. I don't want them listening to music that confirms things that I see as wrong, such as cusswords, stealing, even killing people, as some songs do. Marilyn Manson lives a lifestyle that I don't want my children to follow, and sings songs about the same thing; since he's an inappropriate role model, in my opinion, I don't want my children listening to his music.
I should mention that I don't think that it's the beat that makes a difference; it's the words. If the words and the singer's lifestyle are inappropriate, or if I just don't want your kids to learn to live that way, I'm likely to ban my kids from listening to them.

I'm a kid but yeah sure whatever.
Listen to what you want, you have a right to be individual and like what music you like. I'm not really a big fan of Marilyn Manson, but yeah I have a few songs by him on my iPod. Rock on.
Personaly, unless your staring to act like a rebel and get into too much trouble, there is no harm in it.
Though I do agree some music can bee TOO persuasive, continue to listen to it, just don't do anything stupid.

Well your mom is right in telling you not to listen to his music because his type of music is not for children. And by the way parents only want the best for their children and one day maybe when you yourself become a parent you will realize that whatever your parents told you was for your best. So listen to your parents and if they tell you not to do a particular thing then have enough guts to ask them why and maybe their answer will make you realize that why you shouldn't be doing that thing and if they are being unreasonable then just be open and frank to them and talk to them.. Communication is the key to solving problems which arise because of generation gaps. All the Best. God Bless.

Yeah, because Marilyn Manson's name comes up too often in news stories about psycho kids who commit horrible crimes. What parent wants their kids to have the same tastes and influences as those nightmare spawn? Also, do you play the music loud enough for Mom to hear? Why does she have to put up with that in her home? When you get your own home, then you can fill it with any sound that you want to - AND answer to your neighbor's complaints too.

My kids are too young to listen to Manson (3&5). I listen to stuff my parents didn't like too but they allowed it. To answer your question, yes all parents are upight. The reason we are so uptight is because we love you ding a lings.

You're an immature brat. Parents don't like thier kids doing things that are not good for them, and Marilyn Manson is definitly not. Don't act like you are such a rebel, grow up.

I'm no parent but I know parents like that, they just need to realize that its music, harmless music. If the kid starts doing drugs and showing suicidal/homicidal behavior the parents should try to find out whats wrong instead of just assuming that its the music's fault.

Well its because of the subject matter. There was no beavis and butthead (no mtv at all in my house until the age of 16)
Your parents just dont want you to be hearing about the antichrist and swearing and drugs and cults. Sure it is only lyrics but they dont want you to be exposed to all of that and think its normal and the socially acceptable behavoir.
Flat out they dont want you to swear do drugs and have the same views that the music projects.
