If it wasnt Rooney it would have been the humidity or the heat or the state of the pitch or the fans werent singing enough or maybe it rained or one the players budgie died the morning of the game, anything as long as no one says they just werent good enough.

England always need to blame someone/something else.
The truth of the matter is that they were beaten by a better team.
The important word in that sentence is TEAM. England's palyers all played as individuals & not as a team. Although they did start to gel better once Rooney was sent off.
I think Sven must have told them all to always pass to Rooney & after he was gone they could really play team football. Alas, too late.

It's not England that need a scapegoat. as a populas we accept that we are out. It's the PRESS. It's the newspapers, journalists and other people in the media that need to make a big fuss of other matters to sell papers that make such a fuss. England would still have a good coach (Sven) if it wasn't for such people. Private lives should be kept Private.

I'm not a footie fan but am all for England, Rooney was cornered with the ref watching and what happened was an accident. until Rinaldo stuck his nose in yet again. OK Rooney was wrong but Rinaldo is a prize prick on and off the field long live England.

Why doesn everyone pick on England? Every team out there does this when their team loses. I'm not an english fan but I find if funny how everyone seems to forget that they didn't really suck in their game against Portugal. Remember how it went to penalty kicks??? If they really sucked then the portuguese should have smoked them when they had Rooney gone. I think a lot of you guys just try to find any excuse to shoot down England.

Who needs a SCAPE GOAT, when we have a JACK *** ?
Oops !! He has just resigned. England Team = OVER rated.
OVER sexed. OVER here.
The WHOLE team, The WAGS and BAGS should pay a PENALTY. The team should donate ALL their annual salary for 2006 to medical research. The WAGS and BAGS should donate all their finery to Oxfam. From NOW until 2010, they should be paid the Minimum Weekly Wage PLUS a small Bonus based on Performance. Then we would see REAL PLAYERS on the field. NOT a bunch of WINKERS.

Unfortunately your right, poor lads just went there too try their best, however the media demand that someone is too blame, when the fact of the matter is they just lost the game, it happens sometimes, if the media didn't convince the whole country that they were going to win, then no scapegoat would be needed.....alas the media.

Honestly Rooney had done nothing to deserve red card, and with 11 man england may have scored and pass through this awful Portugese team.
So I understand english fun's frustrations.

They don't! Its childish immature people like on here that come away with stupid silly remarks without even knowing the true facts! Pity there are not a few more adults that could give some intelligent answers. You asked a perfectly reasonable question, but look at the nonsense replies you have! Grow up people!
