The United States will be. Sorry, I live in this country and love it, but there are only two way out to the faulty political system in this era. A revolution, or total loss. The people have to stop being afraid of the governemnt and the government has to stop taking advantage of the people. The people have to stand up and tell the governemet that they will not be intimidated anymore and the president shouldn't get away with all the things he has done. He has to be inpeachead, Guantanamo Bay is wrong, Bombing Iraq was wrong, and we don't see anyone paying the consecuenses of the war. No weapons of mass destruction should've meant to get out of Iraq. And this is just one of the many examples to why if the people stand up and do somthing about their government, the united states will perish just as another ancient civilization.

You may find this interesting, please read on:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with a result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependency;
From dependency back into bondage."
Alexander Fraser Tyler (1748 - 1813)
The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic

Hope that gives us prospective...
