NET ANSWER:

Title: What is art?
asked by ejbman on 10/10/2003 04:05PM PDT

Here's a question for all of the aesthetics 'experts' out there:

What is art?

This requires two main foci:

1) What consitutes an object, process, peformance, etc. that can be called "art"?
2) How can we identify "quality" art?

P.S. I have read 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' so I know about the discussion of "quality" in that book. I've also read a ton of other literature, including many structuralists, deconstructionists, hermeneuticists - most of the classic philosophical literature from Aristotle to Kant and beyond.

What I want to know is what you think. I also want to debate with you on the basis of my own ideas. The few points I have available will be awared for the best ***-kisser. NOT. Points will be awarded for the most substantive and intelligent conversation.

Art comes from the heart & soul of the artist. Art can be expressed by painting a picture, scuplting a statue, taking photographs etc. It can also be expressed by the spoken word such as at a Poetry slam or through music in a song. Art is all around us if you look for it .

There are so many different art forms...
to me art is something that makes you stop, think and ponder upon and realize what it is in that particular art form that makes you connect to it. It can be simple to very complex. You can find in any art form something that triggers your emotions.
Art captures you whether you're the one creating it or you are the viewer.

I think that everything that make you happy inside can be a handcraft, a paint, an sculpture, etc. this means that produce inside of your mind some pleaseant feeling through your eyes , tact, even smell ( you can feel in many ways sample if you watch flowers with a good smell and bright colors you can talk about a kind of art , if you watch a paint even if you make the paint some pleasure can be in your mind through color texture etc.)

bottled feelings
sometimes i run, sometimes i hide
paper heart that tears easily

clipped wings of fantasy
fairy godmother is on holiday
pumpkin dust fading into zilch
can paper aeroplanes sodden with tears fly?

mood swings
fly high high into the sky
the next minute
down in the dumps

running away
a lone figure in the dead of the night
at the crossoads of life
tattered map

shadows of the past
haunts. prowls. stalks.
scarred for life
will i ever smile again

art is when someone express his or her emotions on paper, clay, with paint, drawing, etc. for example a bleeding heart is the way someone expresses pain they feel in their chest. other people may express this feeling different.
