In my opinion, it's learning. That's what high school is for and you should never let your friends get in the way of that.
But, you can balance it...believe me. Some people think that paying attention in school will make you lose friends. It shouldn't. And it won't. If your friends leave you because you pay attention in class instead of goofing off, they aren't worth it.

Graduation. When you graduate and move on, you realize that things that were SO important in high school doesn't matter in the least. It will not matter if you were the most popular or the biggest geek. No one cares in the real world. But I guess gaining independence is a good thing about high school. Just keep in mind that there's a bigger world out there...bigger than high school. When you go to apply for a job, it will not matter what clique you were in so get an education while you're there and have fun. It goes by so quickly and you can never get those carefree days back again.

My first reaction was "Graduating" because I hated school but, there were things I liked about it. I loved my friends and hanging out at ball games and flirting with the guys from the other towns (I married one of those 'guys' 35 years ago). I was not academic (a C student) because most subjects seemed like a waste of my time and I wasn't sportsy so I enjoyed the 'out-of-school' part the best.
