The dark side of the moon would have to be the side that the sun is not shining on at that time. It could also be the side
that the earth does not see.

What is called "dark side of the moon" by scientists is the side that never faces the earth. A moon "day" is roughly 28 earth days long. In other words, it takes the moon about 28 days to spin on its axis. Since it also happens to take that long for it to go around the earth, the earth never sees the other (dark) side of the moon.

simple, the side that's not facing the sun, when you see a half-moon that's bright on the left, the dark side is on the right, and indeed there is a dark side and a light side seeing as how the moon does not rotate on it's axis enough to expose the far side, which is why the moon always looks the same essentially.

The phrase is commonly used to refer to the side of the moon facing away from the earth, even though that side gets as much sunlight as the side we can see. Literally, the dark side of the moon would be that part which is not illuminated by sunlight at a particular time.
