Roads that are called parkways are more picturesque or ways through parks. I don't have a good answer for why we call them driveways, I would be interested in it's origon.

Same reason why you pay tolls on freeways. You never get anywhere on an expressways. And York, Jersey, Hampshire, Mexico are all NEW (what happened to OLD JERSEY, OLD YORK. etc.?)
