I was told by a friend who is a restaurant manager to never send back food & wait for a replacement. If the food was bad ask for your bill to be comped & explain to the manager the problem.
I once was eating at a breakfast place & found a roach in my scrambled eggs. I showed my waitress and she asked if I wanted more.
Why would I want more cockroaches in my eggs?

My husband use to work in a couple of restaurants. He never did anything to the food, but he has seen lots of other people doing things. For example, spitting in the food and reusing food from other people's plates. I never send anything back if I plan on eating. If I don't want to eat then I will send it back because some of the restaurants will take it off the bill.

I have worked in restaurants for 16 years and I have never done anything or seen anything done to someones food, I am not saying it does not happen but not that often I am sure. The best thing to remember is to be polite about it if you get an attitude then you are more likely to have that kind of problem. and remember when tipping do not take the food quality out on your server. check out bitterwaitress.com for more info

To prevent the spitting/etc, just order a different dish after the fact... be like, "Oh, can I have an order of the chicken parm, too?"... Then once they bring the food to your table, tell them that the one before was cold/bad/etc, and that you wish it to be taken off the bill because of the poor quality. That way, they don't know you're a complainer and take it out on you.

I have never heard that. If I'm not happy with the food, I wouldn't say anything unless they come and ask if everything is okay. Then I would tell them how the food was. 95% of time, they would take it off the bill. If they don't ask, I won't go back ever again.

If my food is not right and I feel that it should be prepared differently, I send it back. You are paying for it ,you should get what you pay for. Restaurants expect food to be sent back from time to time.

As long as you have a good reason, there should be no reason for you not to send the food back in. At the same time be polite and agreeable as you can to the staff, and they shouldn't mind attending to the problem - it's there job to make sure we enjoy our meal and want to return!! They want you to come back!

I spent most of the last 20 years in resteraunts and night clubs. I think that if you didn't get what you ordered, send it back. If you suspect it will be a problem, talk to a manager. You should get what you order how you ordered it for sure.

that is so true..I was watching the news and a whole bunch of waitresses and waiters told the news station that they spit in food that was sent back because they got annoyed from a person complaining. and they said that they would deliberatelly put someone next to a crying baby because they didn't like them or give them a bad table.
