I'm thinking about getting DSL and i have some questions.

1.) Can you have audio by online webcam and have audio by phone without getting audio interference from either.

2.) Does having a better computer than another person actually decrease DSL speed. For ex: right now i juse have dial-up and the fact that i have a better computer than my nephew gets me a faster dial-up speed, does DSL work the same way, or does it remain constant despite the quality of the computer.

3.) On dial up, i have to free up space on my computer, but deleting cookies, history, defragmenting, and disk cleanup in order to make sure i get the most speed out of my computer. Does my computer have to have more space on it in order to get the best speed possible.

I know these maybe dumb questions to you, but i don't know anything about DSL. Where we are planning on moving, we are able to get DSL. I have already called Embarq(Sprint High Speed), and they say we can get DSL in that area.

you CAN have audio on your dsl connection via webcam because DSL operates on a higher frequency than voice calls on your phone line.

your DSL speed is always constant regardless of your computer's age or performance. However if you are using Internet explorer, then it is a good idea to clean out your cookies, and temporary Internet files.

Even with DSL, it is always a good idea to keep doing ehat you're doing in terms of cleaning it out and defragmenting it, as they keep your PC running in good shape.

of course if you are generally getting slow performance form your computer, it may be a good idea to reformat (erase everything and reload windows OS again) especially if you don't us Any firewall, anti virus or spy/malware removal tool.

Well. Here are your answers:

1.If you mean talking on the phone while being connected, yes, you can. No busy line anymore.
2. The computer model is effective for the internet speed, but not that much in DSL, cuz the speed is so high that you won't recognize the difference, but again it depends on the PC, if it's a really old one like Pentium 3 or 2 or lower, then yes, the PC speed will be effective.
2.See, DSL or dial up are the ways of connecting to the net, otherwise everything is the same, you'll have all coockies, history files etc. on DSL aswell.

Your question is not dump, ASK WHATEVER YOU DON'T KNOW.

1.The DSL link and the regular phone link are separate, so there should be no cross interference. (I cannot tell exactly what you are thinking of doing, so I can't tell for sure.)

2. The communications link is separate from the computers, so it's speed is independent. You connect a DSL line to your computer's network adapter or USB port, and these are all the same speed right now.

However, your DSL line will run only from your computer to the ISP's server. After that the connection is in the general internet until it gets to your friend's ISP server. Then it runs at the speed of the line from your friend's ISP server to your friend's computer.

If your friend has a slower speed line than you, your total speed cannot go any faster than your friend's line when you video chat with them , for example.

3. You will still need to keep your computer uncluttered if you want to get the most out of your DSL connection. (However, with the faster DSL speed, you may not notice a slowdown as soon.)

From a practical point of view, DSL is not really any different than any other line type, just faster than some.

1. You can talk on the phone and listen to someone talk on a webcam at the same time. They will not interfear with eachother.

2. A faster computer may give the appearance of a faster connection, it has to do with how fast your computer can process and display the information that has been downloaded. Depending on how slow the computer is, will determine if you see latencies in webpages. RAM upgrade (simply adding more RAM) can improve your web surfing greatly, and it is probably the cheapest way to get extra performance out of your computer. Check your computers manufacture to see what kind of RAM you need.

3. You computer uses virtual memory, I recommend that you at least keep 1 gb (1024 mb) of free space on your C:\ at all times. Cookies and history hardly take up any space, the big one is your temporary internet files. These are files that are cached on your computer and accessed when you go back to websites you have previously viewed, as its quicker for your computer to access the cach than to download and display new images each time you visit.

Hope these help!

Enjoy the DSL, if you've only ever experienced dial-up, you are in for a treat no matter how slow, or old your computer may be.

1. Yes you can

2. The DSL line speed is the limiting factor. A better computer will not help.

3. No

Those aren't dumb questions at all. You will love your DSL. You will wonder how you survived before you got it.
