Fake silver will leave a green mark on your skin after a few days of wearing it. A more technical aproach is to smell the silver. It has a very distinctive odor that can be matched to something else you know to be genuine.

the necklace should be mark by the clasp 925. for sliver plates cups, spoons etc, it should oxides that also means it is real. to clean sliver or gold best bet is to use a polish cloth.

Silver has a brilliant white metallic luster, it does however tarnish, it is harder than gold and pure silver has a high electrical conductivity.

It should have the markings .999 and it will also say silver of course,not glodplatd or any of that fake stuff...Hope this helps.

put it out in the grass, if a blue jay flies over and grabs it, then you know it was real
