good question. some people are saying they feel sorry for the english. but why? if you live i nthe country you would know how bad it is. the english media is so arrogant. they were all saying they would easily get past portugal. all the time all they were saying how they were going to win the cup. im telling you there was no humility right through the tournament. so im glad they are out. even they were saying before the ecuador match they expected an emphatic victory. i mean it the knockout stages for petes sake. there are no easy matches.

Nobody goes into a match thinking they're going to lose - what's the point of playing then? You need to believe in yourself. There's always a first time for anything - even if they didn't win it in 40 yrs, who was to say that they couldn't have won it this time?
Example: You're going in for a job interview. Whether or not you make it; you go there with your hopes up, hoping to do your best and hope that you succeed and get the job. The same thing applies here! You can't be pessimistic if you're trying out for something; what's the point of even trying then?

Every country must beleive they can win or else they are defeated before they start. When you under take a task is failure your first thought? I think when the World cup started even Ghana, who had never been to world cup before had just as much faith in themselves as any other team, and look at how well they did. It's all about belief

Differences in strength are extremely small (especially this year) and with some luck any team could beat any other team (some excluded). So if England had some more luck they would've qualified and why could they not win the World Cup?

Statistically speaking, every team in the event had a chance.
Remember Greece?

On a practical level, if they'd edged Portugal, they'd only have needed to beat France then Germany or Italy to win it.

Maybe you still don't make them favourites, but that's a really great chance to win it.

Also, their fully-fit first 11 is a team of *really* great players, to a man.

Sadly, they don't have the bench, certainly in attack, to cope with injuries (or suspensions).

Anyone who knows anything about football will acknowledge that England did have a chance of winning the world cup, but they blew it.

I thought they had a chance of winning but I guess it didn't happen this time, I feel pity for those players that this is gonna be their last world cup

Oh at last, someone else has said what I was thinking!! All of their games were, at best, mediocre and at worst, boring to watch.

Come on England, let's get real and get up to the right level for next time.
