My nine year old son used too mess his room on a daily basis,
in the end I told him he had ten miniutes to clear the mess or I would return with a bin bag and everything on the floor would go in the trash and stay there.
Hard lesson for him to learn and expensive considering what went to the skip, games console, sports ware etc etc.
Im not saying it was the right thing to do but he only has to be asked once to tidy his room and its not half as messy.

My 10 yr old trashes her room daily and I make her clean it. Her idea of cleaning it is moving junk around her so she has a place to sit in the mess!!! What's that all about, I started letting her friends come over and then she started keeping her room clean. She didn't want them to tell other kids at school. Try inviting friends over without her knowing that will teach her.

Not any more, they are grown and gone, but I did have two teenagers at one time. The way I handled it is: That is their room and they can keep it any way they want, HOWEVER, I will not go in there to collect laundry and if bugs start invading your space, you have to deal with it, not me. And if I suspect that you are doing drugs or having sex, THEN I will invade your space and check your room for condoms and drug paraphenilia because as a parent, I have that right and because I love and care about you enough to make sure that you are not hurting yourself. That i how I handled it and today, my kids both say that they are glad I raised them the way I did.

No but I have had boys who did the same. Deny her her favourite things until she cleans her room - no tv, ground her, leave her at home when you are going to do something exciting, etc. She will get the message. Just make sure you do not clean it for her!!! If that fails, leave her to wallow in her dirt, she will eventually get fed up of being rebellious if you ignore her. Its a phase, it will pass. You are defintiely not alone!!
