im thinking about getting a used one since i dont have the money for a brand new but the ones on ebay look like they are pretty messed up.

Some stores will sell refurbished ipods, which are used but fixed up to look like new. They usually sell for a lot less than the original price.

depending on where you live Craigslist can be a good thing for lots of things. Have you looked in your local hock-shops/pawn shops? In Portland, Oregon there is a place called STUFF. they sell things that people get loans on and sell plain out for cash. What people don't know is it's ran by the Portland Police and they are selling stuff nabbed in busts etc.
