It is most unlikely for hamsters to catch rabies, as they are kept away from possible carriers .

If your mother thought they were ill, she should not have sold them to another person..

Hamsters do not live very long 12-- 18 months is normal life span .

You would need to discus vaccination of hamsters with a vet, but in my opinion, it is very unlikely, for these tiny rodents to be vaccinated .

I am sorry to hear you are now without your hamster friends
Hope i have helped a little

i think of you're over reacting. on a similar time as that's a threat for hamsters to settlement rabies (any mammal can seize it), I extremely have never heard of a rabid hamster or of a case of rabies unfold from hamsters to human beings. except this hamster roams the community at nighttime fraternizing with rabid animals there is unquestionably 0 threat that the hamster even has rabies. This hamster could ought to have come into direct touch with an contaminated animal and that animal could have had to bite the hamster. despite if the hamster had come into touch with a rabid animal very few hamster-sized mammals settlement rabies via fact maximum issues that would provide them rabies are going to the two consume or kill them whilst they bite the hamster.

Hamsters can get rabies, but unless they are exposed to rabies they will not get them. What is your mom thinking of? the only way they will get rabies is to be bitten by an animal with rabies...or any other exchange of body fluids. They also can get rabies with claws...but I don't see how that can work. Oh well, I am not a vet. Anyway, unless your hamsters were outside or loose, they didn't have rabies.

Hamsters can only get rabies if they are exposed to other wild animals that might carry the disease.I,ve had my son's pet hamster for over 4 years now which is really good considering their expected life span is up to 3 years and I credit it to a healthy hamster food diet such as green veggies, unsalted nuts and letting Ham,ham>My son's hamster get plenty of exercise.Note:Because they are nocturnal animals some hamsters don't like to spend in their wheels and get the exercise they need to stay healthy,so I make a habit of every night before I go to bed to take our hamster out of it's cage and let it roll around in it's wheel ball for about an hour. They cost under 5 bucks just about anywhere they sell pet supplys.Ps...Hamsters do not need to get vaccines.,just keep them active and on a good diet.Sincerely,LP.

I've been a hamster owner for years. Never had any of them got rabies. Usually, rabies is rare in small rodents such as beavers, chipmunks, squirrels, rats, mice or hamsters. Rabies is also rare in rabbits. In the mid-Atlantic states, where rabies is increasing in raccoons, woodchucks can also be rabid.

All worm blooded animals can get rabies.
Which means they would need to be vaccined.
But unless your hamster was outside or being exposed to other
wild animals they shouldn't get rabies.

It is possible if they get out and get bitten. As long as you don't keep them in your back yard, they don't need a vaccine.
