This question is not meant to offend france or french people. The purpose of this question is to see if anyone elses baloon when entering a baloon race has gone further than france.

Why france you ask? Because everytime when the results come back the winning baloon was found the furtherist, usually in france, or on the channel of france.

It depends, of course, on where the balloons were released... if you were releasing them in Norwich, it might sound a bit more interesting to say that they ended up in France rather than Liverpool, even though the distance travelled might not actually be that different...

At any rate, the prevailing winds would tend to direct balloons to the south-east and towards France anyway. And it is also true that the eldest balloons tend to attribute their longevity to a healthy diet of garlic-infused croissants, which are readily available in France.

Most rubber used for ballons has inbuilt homing abilities and as the majority of balloons are made in France it is hardly a suprise that at least one of two make it home. Vive La Republic!

The balloons follow the way the wind blows.

Recently read in a paper that a balloon ended up somewhere in Iraq I think it was - I do remember that it was a squaddie that returned it.
But it will be down to:
a. what sort of air you put in it
b. how much
c. atmospherics
d. wind current and speed.
