Usually when people are hurting they hate not really themselves but how they are acting or who they are at the moment they lash out. What they don't realize is what they hate or dislike most about other people is exactly what they are hateing or dislikeing about themselves. What brings that on is sin in their lives and they are needing forgiveness for that sin that they hate. Jesus and love is the only answer to there problem and until they realize that He died so he could forgive them of there sins (your sins also mine too) and accept that in their heart that He not only died but rose again and to ask Him to forgive them (you also) of their sins they will always feel dirty inside.
1 John 1:9 says "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
After we confess our sins we should do what Romans 10:9-10, 13 says "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." " For whosover shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." once we do that then find a good godly church and follow in believers baptism we won't feel so dirty inside to want to talk about other people anymore instead they will want to talk about how great the Lord is.

People tend to judge others by themselves. The dishonest reject the existence of honesty, the selfish reject the existence of selflessness. Honest people are the easiest to swindle because they tend to be the most trusting. Combine this with an ego that won't let someone acknowledge their own faults and the result is people who project their own flaws onto others then attack them in the belief that condemning it in others proves them blameless of the same thing.

Because deep down they don't feel worthy of the attention they get...they feel insecure...so to make themselves feel worthy and better they talk about others.
