I think that republicans are really scared of the truth that there may be some scientists and scholars that are bigger and better than them. They want to control everything and I understand because I'm a democrat! :-) God blesses human kind with knowledge that surpasses most, but society today controls the littlest of things. I'm sorry for the way you feel and I totally agree with you. Good Luck wiith whatever you're trying to do!

I can't speak for others, but I oppose the funding of Fetal stem cell research because they cause uncontrolled cell growth also known as cancer and there is resent research that shows that Adult stem cells are also plenipotentiary, being able to grow into any other type of cell. Additionally if we fund this type of research then any breakthrough will go to pharmaceutical companies who will sell it back to us at a great profit without having to invest in the research.

They believe that stem cells from embryos are the death of that person it could have been if it had been allowed to develop.
No one can know this for sure, of course-- you then get into a debate about when life occurs.
Interestingly, they have made more advances with stem cells from umbilical cord blood and bone marrow from adults.

For the same reason they fight to keep assult rifles legal to own. It makes it that much harder to make all guns illegal to own. They will stay as far to the right of abortion as they can. Stem cell research is one bargaining chip further from making abortion closer to becoming more acceptable. I personally am against abortion but would love to see stem cell research legalized in this country.

Ironic that Republican hero Ronald Reagan would have been saved from his fate, dying from Alzheimer's related complications, by stem-cell research...

In the past, people were always creeped about by "magic" and witches.
In the present, it's genetic research.
