People say they hate country music because modern country music is not enjoyable to listen to, the artists are not very thougtful, and the lyrics are tired and pointless.
Also there's kind of a go-along with the group, beauty pagent, whites only, intolerant republican subculture around that type of music that many people find to be offensive.
Example 1: Like that awful song about 9-11 where the guy is proud that he doesn't know the difference between Iran and Iraq. What the hell is that?
Example 2: What the country music fans and industry did to the Dixie Chicks when they turned out not to be Republicans. The fans can do whatever they like, of course, but it says something about them. It brands the whole music style as for republicans only.

I think people say they hate it to be cool, but really every body likes some country music. It is cool to like country music. the new country is more like the old rock.

I don't think you need to be cool to hate country music or to sound cool, country music is disliked regardless if you are trying to sound cool or not,I don't like country music but I don't like it because I don't like it, not everybody is trying to be cool. But the question is what is "being cool".

i'm from oklahoma and can honestly say i hate country music. i only like the really 'rock' songs in the genre and then 'live like you were dying' but other than that it's all a bunch of crap. no one i konw says it to be cool; they're not closet fans or anything.

I think maybe sometimes they do, but they are misguided, because country music really is pop music these days. They are still stuck in the old paradigm, to use a business term.

People are all different and their likes and dislikes are the same. What a mess it would be if that weren't so. Myself I like music and I don't dislike any type. But there are songs in each that I don't like.

No, I say it because I truly do hate it, nor do I consider myself to be cool. As I am incredibly lame.
