Actually, cards as we know them came from Tarot Cards which became illegal due to religous persecution in the inquisition. So they changed the shape and pictures on the cards and knocked out the Major Arcana. Playing cards then took off in the courts of Europe, lol, with no one the wiser. Rofl.
