It probably depends on how long you have been on Income Support (IS) as Maternity Allowance is based on your recent employment history.

However even if you have only recently finished work Any Maternity Allowance you may be entitled to would be deducted from your IS so you probably would not benefit financially.

However you may be entitled to a maternity Grant and I have provided a link to the DWP site that goves more details of this.

You should also contact your local Jobcentre plus office for advice on any other benefits you may be entitled to.

income support is a top up to your income. if you only get income support this means your living on the highest amount the government say you need to live on.

be carefull, income support is being fazed out and child tax credit is replacing it.
if this is your first child you'll lose it anyway, some will be better off, others will lose out.

if you apply for maternity benefit now you will reduce or stop your income support.
all that will happen is the fund you get if from will change not the amount you get.

i hope I've explained this in a way that's easily understood and not patronising.
health and happiness for your new baby x

What do you mean by income support? If you are on state disability, for being pregnant ,your on it for maternity reasons. Just stay on state disability for the maximum time aloted in your state for maternity leave. If you have other health related issues speak to you doctor about either an extension or other options. I hope i've answered your question! Kelly
