the monitor has gone black and someone suggested it could be the video card? It is not the monitor.....I opened the computer and don't know where it is located!!
If I remove it I can take it to a store. Does it have the name and make on it?

Ok, open up the back of your computer tower. take you moniter cord and plug it into where you normally plug it when it worked. Whatever it is attached to is your video card.

Some computers do not have a video card installed, in that case, your moniter cord would be connected directly to the giant motherboard in the tower. If this is the case, you need to buy a video card from a large wal-mart of other computer store. They range in price from $50 to $500. I recommend the ATI-Radion 9800 series for $150 that wal-mart carries.

You install the video card by placing it in the large slot located near the bottom of the motherboard. (Its pretty hard to miss)
If you are unsure how to do this, take it to any computer store and tell them you want your video card installed, No computer store should charge you for this because it takes less than 30 seconds to do and doesn't require any tools.

Good luck

Somewhere on the back of the computer is the place where you plugged the monitor. It probably has 3 rows of holes, which makes it easy to spot.

It may be attached to a card in a row of card slots, or it may be attached to your motherboard. It it is attached to the card you can remove it and take it to a store. If it attached to the motherboard you may be better off to find a service person.

They can disable the video interface on the motherboard and install a video card for you.

look at the back of your computer and look for the connector to where the monitor should plug in. This connector should be located on the video card. When your computer is open just look to see the card that the connector is connected to and remove it. If the connector happens to be on same piece of material in which your printer and USB inputs are located, then your videocard is integrated in your mother board in which you cannot remove the video card.

Follow where you're supposed to plug in the cord from the monitor. It may also be that your video card is onboard. Why don't you bring in the whole computer to the shop so they can also check the power supply. =)

I strongly recommend that don't do that yourself. Pick up whole of your case and take it to store. But afterall Video card often locates in the middle of motherboard and usually has a Fan on it that you can see it.
