there is no dipstick for standard or automatic. If you look under the brake cylinder on top of the transmission you will see a red cap. That is the fill hole for the tranny. You have to have the car parked on a level ground or prefferebly on a lift. There is a 15mm bolt on the side of the tranny. You have to take that bolt out slowly and if fluid comes out it is good if not remove the red cap and fill it there but be carefull not to overfill it just put small amounts in untill it is full. So you are not wrong in saying there is no dipstick this is the norm on most newer Gm and saturn vehicles. It is a sealed tranny. The reason is GM wants to make it a feature so you dont have to do any thing to the tranny unless you see a leak.

Trust me there is a transmission, there should be "dipstick"to the back of the motor or the side. One will be the motor oil, one will be the transmission you need to check the transmission while the engine is running on a level surface

if you have a standard shift...then there won't be a tranny dipstick. you actually have to get under the vehicle, remove the fill bolt in the tranny, insert your finger and feel for the fluid level.
an automatic,,,there will be a tranny dipstick....if you can see the front of the tranny from the engine compartment..llok for a metal tube coming up from it. or, get under it and look for that tube, and have a friend topside tell look where you are telling them the tube runs to.

unless its a stick shift, there should be a dipstick...usually against the back wall, most newer cars have a yellow dipstick that says "trans" or "trans fluid".
