I am a wacky combo of Elizabeth in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich's novels....

I don't really identify myself with any of the characters in books. I really like Persuasion by Jane Austen though because the heroine isn't your typical young, clever, witty, outspoken, center-of-attention, belle-of-the-ball kind've girl. She is quiet and shy. She's a good listener. She is patient and gentle. And it's your old maid finally gets a chance to be Cinderella book.
Some of my favorite books such as Gone With The Wind have characters that I'd never want to be...just characters I like to read about and visit often.
Characters I enjoy most are Elizabeth Bennett, Anne Shirley, and the woman from Much Ado About Nothing whose name escapes me at the moment.

I think over the years the books I like best definitely have main characters that I feel I share traits with. Even though she's from England and white...I totally identify with Bridget Jones...struggling with weight issues, struggling with cleaning, setting goals, trying to fall for the right guy... Beach Music...I love Jack's smart mouth, sarcastic wit and love of family and the South; Min of Jennifer Crusie's Bet Me...she doesn't have a perfect body, but she has a beautiful spirit, she has a great sense of humor, a great sense of justice and can fall head over heels even against her better judgment. I think a lot of women identify with Elizabeth Bennet, Jo March and Anne Shirley because they were all dynamic women in a time when it wasn't proper to be so... most of us want to be viewed that way... I definitely have had so-called friends like Darcy in Emily Giffin's Something Borrowed. I don't really have enemies, I have had frienships that soured like that one (not same situation, but because of differences in personality.)

I really relate to a couple of characters combined into one. I remind myself of Kinsey Milhone because I am a loner and I enjoy investigating things. But I also am a lot like Jaine Austen in, Laura Levines novels because I have gone through a lot of her trials and tribulations.

I have read many books and don't recall ever having a character remind me of myself. I read for entertainment and knowledge.
