By this age my son was using plastic cups with the little "sippy device/straw" on the top; Even if the baby spills, the quantity can be contained and quickly cleaned!

I breastfed my daughter for 16 months so she never used a bottle. I started her on a cup with water at about 9 months. I think a cup with juice or water in it is a great idea. I would keep the bottle separate though until around 12 months because children at that age still need the bonding time that they get when nursing or getting a bottle. at around 12 months I would recommend switching to whole milk into a cup. Of course I am not a doctor. Just a mom. It's really up to you though. Give the cup a try though. If your child doesn't like it. Put it away and bring it back out in a week or so. Good luck!

My first daughter didn't want to lose the bottle until she was 3 and a half... very tippical for firstborns... Nothing happened... her orthodontist gives her thumbs up every time...
The second daughter opted pretty early for a sippy... and at 2 she was drinking from an open cup... The third one never left the breast, yet, 16 months and still going, but she drinks from a sippy cup other liquids, (but never milk - cuz for her milk comes from one place only) and from sports bottles... so test the baby and see what they are comfortable with.... you may have to go through a few cups, until you find one that's going to do the trick....
I don't think it matters. not at all... I haven't seen any side effects and I am pleased with the way their teeth look like, if that's your concern...

My daughter is 8 months old and is starting to drink from a sippy cup now. I give her a bottle first thing in the morning when she wakes up and a bottle at night right be for she goes to bed. But other then that she has a sippy cup through out the day.

Well Ive heard that babies should be started on milk when they turn one. This is the time when you must wean them off the bottle, When they are young they still need all the vitamins that formula offers for optimal nutrition and growth, So wait till your child turns one. Another thing is that some children have sensitive tummies and will not tolerate milk yet. When you do switch to milk try half formula half milk for a few days before totally stopping the formula then they will get used to the taste easier. introduce your child to sippy cups and try not to give your child juice with sugar this will promote tooth decay,

That depends on yo0ur child if they like drinking out of a cup and or getting enough milk then by all means throw away the bottle. If not there is nothing wrong with a bottle at this age.

It all depends on you and the baby. In my opinion I had my daughter drinking from a transitional cup at 5 months. I did not want her to one of those babies that felt she needing a bottle to get through daily routines. It made it alot easier to stop the bottle cold turkey. She is now 8 months old and drinks from a regular sippy cup with no problems.

My son is 14 months old and at about 10 months I took him off bottles and moved him to sippy cups. At about 11 months instead of formula, I put whole milk in his sippy cups. They say to try to wait to start whole milk until about a year old due to allergies. As for switching from bottles, I think 10 months is a good time.

My son never took a bottle, EVER. I gave him a cup with a straw (kinda like a sippy cup but had a retractable rubber straw) around the age of five months and he did really well.
Just remember if you give him a bottle you will eventually have to break him from having one and at this age I think a sippy cup would be better.
Just my two cents :)

I put both my kids on to a sippie at year old, and at meals we practice using a cup. Now it is summer I let my son sit out with a cup of water, and If I'm going to be in the car for along time I take a sippie. You want to be careful in using a bottle once your child gets teeth they are at a high risk for bottle decay.

Not at 10 months. But he/she should be drinking from a cup at a year old. Get rid of the bottles completely then.
